Before operations were implemented Conquest was quite straightforward. If you were better you would have eventually prevailed, but there was no mechanic which could affect the match in such a big way. Operations can turn the tide of battles and even whole matches. They are an advanced mechanic with a lot of synergies and as such broaden the line between average and good players – something which is always good.
There are 3 different operations available to each player. You drag and drop operations just as you would units. Drop them on a territory and next turn they will take effect.
The first one on the left is the Satellite, which reveals one unexplored territory anywhere on the map. The Satellite is exceptionally good for checking vulnerable mountain spots and doing complex strategies. It can also be used to counter the other two operations, to a degree. It can help you defend against Drop Pods and wreck some devastating havoc in conjunction with the Missile. You gain a Satellite every 3 turns.
In the middle—arguably the strongest operation in the game—the Missile. Whenever an opponent of yours has a Missile available you will have to be careful how you are concentrating your troops, because a Missile will destroy all units in a territory. The explosion takes effect before movement, so there is no room for error. You gain a Missile every 6 turns.
Germany allied with Great Britain for this occasion, and together they formed the next generation of Drop Pods. Each of these Drop Pods will bring precious reinforcements to the battlefield in form of 4 troopers and 2 tanks. The power of Drop Pods is in the fact that they offer great versatility and can be dropped anywhere on the map. Getting crushed on one side? Drop Pod! Doing a massive invasion? Drop Pod! Gank? Drop Pod! You can even use them together with a Missile, since those hit their target before your Drop Pods kick in. You gain a Drop Pod every 9 turns.
Understanding operations, using them effectively and evading them can decide whether you will win or lose.
